The marketing and distribution of Elephant Plasterboard in New Zealand commenced in July 1988.

The original company, Rikki Merchants Ltd was owned and operated by Kevin and Michael van Hest. This company sold direct to the Trade and through a handful of Building Supply Outlets.
In 1991 Sigma Agencies Ltd was formed as a wholesaler for on selling to Building Supply Outlets.

In late 1992 Mike van Hest left the company,  and it has since then been wholly owned and operated by Kevin van Hest.

In 1996 Sigma’s name was changed to Elephant Plasterboard (NZ) Ltd.

In 2002 a decision was made to wind down the retail arm (Rikki).  There was very
strong growth and support from other merchants once we left the retail arena.

Elephant Plasterboard (NZ) Limited  continue to market the Elephant Plasterboard brand direct to the Builder, Home Owner and Specifier, who source product through their preferred Building Supply Outlet.

We offer a high quality brand of plasterboard and have innovative Bracing, Fire, Acoustic and Wet Area system solutions using a compact range of plasterboard types. New Zealanders had for over 60 years only one choice of plasterboard brand to choose from and so we are proud to be able to offer the NZ Building Industry a high quality and innovative plasterboard solution.
